dont do online.. when i first started playing guitar i tried to learn how to play from online lessons and it took me months to be able to play a single song. but then i went to see a real instructor and i learned so much on my first day!

I agree with yahoo_anwssers…. you'll learn a lot more and faster if you see a real instructor. Also, a good teacher will be able to teach you how to hold the guitar properly and how to play it more efficiently and SAFELY – if you hold or play the guitar improperly, you could actually injure yourself – you could develop Carpal Tunnel Syndrome or something. I myself started off learning all by myself, with the help of online lessons. But without a teacher to guide me, I had difficulties figuring out how to finger some chords, and after a while of playing, I would always have pain in my thumb and wrist area. When I finally saw a real teacher, in just one session, he taught me how to hold the guitar and play it more efficiently, without hurting myself..
But if you really want some online lessons… or to supplement your studies if you do decide to find a guitar teacher.. here are a few sites:
